Grapefruit is my favorite citrus. I love the sweet flavor with notes of tartness and bitterness. I especially love grapefruit in savory recipes! Try out some of these paleo grapefruit recipes next time you’ve got the pink stuff on hand.
1. Fennel and Grapefruit Salad With Marlin Steak
Now, this is a gourmet meal! You’ll need boneless, skinless marlin steaks, fennel, ruby red grapefruit, ghee, maple syrup, lemon juice, whole grain mustard, olive oil, fresh parsley, salt, and pepper. This is a dinner for the books, and one you’ll want to serve to company.
2. Sparkling Grapefruit Jello
This jello is the perfect palate cleanser between courses or after a meal, and it’s so easy to make. All you need is fresh grapefruit juice, gelatin, sparkling water, and honey or maple syrup. You can use loose, grass-fed gelatin instead of packets, and you can control the amount of sweetener that you add.
3. Broiled Grapefruit With Coconut Whipped Cream
Broiled is one of my favorite ways to enjoy grapefruit—usually with a drizzle of honey before it goes into the oven. But when you add toppings like whipped vanilla coconut cream, and spices like ginger, cardamom, and nutmeg? Now you’re really taking it to the next level.
4. Grapefruit Honey Garlic Chicken Wings
These chicken wings have a popular honey garlic flavor combined with the unique grapefruit twist, from grapefruit juice with a bit of pulp. The grapefruit cooks down into a delicious simmered sauce with honey and garlic, and it’s one of my favorite-ever flavors.
5. Ruby Red Grapefruit Honey Glazed Skillet Chicken
See, chicken and grapefruit are friends! This recipe is for a whole chicken with ruby red grapefruit, grapefruit zest, honey, olive oil, garlic, herbs de provence, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper. It all happens in one pan, so you know it’s a weeknight favorite.
6. Pink Grapefruit Green Smoothie
I love grapefruit in smoothies, and this one also features fresh pineapple and avocado for a tropical flavor. You can hardly taste the baby spinach, so this is a healthy smoothie that’s also sweet, and you might even be able to get your kids to drink it.
7. Winter Citrus and Arugula Salad
This salad combines sweet citrus with the more bitter and spicy arugula for a great combination of flavors that’s sure to wake you up from your winter slumber. You’ll need olive oil, orange juice, salt, pepper, apple cider vinegar, honey, assorted citrus, pepitas, and fresh washed arugula.
8. Citrus Avocado Salad With Shrimp and Smoky Vinaigrette
This salad has everything you want in a hearty lunch, including romaine lettuce, kale, oranges, grapefruit, avocados, red onion, wild shrimp, and a smoky dressing with smoked paprika, red wine vinegar, and honey. You’ve got greens, proteins, and healthy fats all in one place.
9. Pan Seared Duck Breast With Persimmin Grapefruit Sauce
I love fruit sauces with poultry, and this duck breast is the perfect juicy base for persimmon, grapefruit juice, ginger, and shallots. You’ll need to make a few adjustments by replacing the soy sauce with coconut aminos and using coconut sugar for the sugar in the sauce.
10. Grapefruit, Avocado, and Toasted Coconut Salad
This is a filling salad with just a handful of ingredients, so it’s perfect to throw together when you’re feeling like you don’t have anything healthy and convenient—it’s both, so no excuses! The toasted coconut flakes really add a lot of flavor, and avocado and grapefruit balance each other so well.
11. Almost Instant Ruby Red Granita
Living in a hot climate, I can never be short on quick and refreshing treat recipes. This one is made with grapefruit, frozen watermelon, ice, and orange juice. Using ice and frozen watermelon means this treat is frozen right away, so you can enjoy it in minutes instead of waiting hours for it to freeze.
12. Pink Grapefruit Lemonade
Modestly sweetened with honey and enhanced with the unexpected flavor of grapefruit, this lovely lemonade is exactly what the hot summer day called for. You’ll need fresh lemon juice, fresh pink grapefruit juice, honey, water, ice, and optional fresh slices of the fruits.
13. Grapefruit Pound Cake
Coconut flour is so good at making a pound cake texture, which is why it’s the perfect base for this grapefruit pound cake. You’ll also need honey, vanilla, coconut oil, full fat coconut milk, baking powder, and salt. Oh, and don’t forget the delicious grapefruit juice!
14. Pineapple Grapefruit Paloma
This is my new favorite drink, especially as we have an abundance of local grapefruit in my neighborhood. You’ll need 100% agave tequila blanco, fresh grapefruit juice, agave nectar, and citrus butters. Rim the glasses with salt, pour over ice, and enjoy responsibly.
15. Golden Beet and Grapefruit Mint Salad With Crushed Walnuts
This salad has a deliciously crumbly topping that’s almost like a savory streusel. Make it with beautiful golden beets, raw walnuts, ruby red grapefruit, and a dressing of honey with extra virgin olive oil, chopped fresh mint leaves, salt, and pepper to taste.
16. Shrimp, Avocado, and Grapefruit Salad
This seems to be a popular combination, and for good reason. his yummy salad is full of healthy fats and flavors with pink shrimp, avocado, pink grapefruit, jalapenos peppers, pistachios, cilantro, fresh ginger, chopped red onion, olive oil, white balsamic vinegar, Himalayan salt, and the zest of lemons and oranges.
17. Pink Grapefruit Ginger Smoothie
A smoothie with such beautiful flavors and carefully-chosen, health-boosting ingredients has to be special, right? Make it with grapefruit, banana, non-dairy milk, fresh ginger, maca powder, carrot, and ice cubes. It’s got both fruits and veggies, along with immune-boosting ginger and hormone-balancing maca powder.
18. Broiled Grapefruit With Streusel
Here’s another delicious broiled grapefruit recipe, and this one includes a streusel topping made with walnuts or pecans, almond meal, shredded coconut, cinnamon, coconut oil, salt, and maple syrup. The flavors soak down into the fruit as it boils, and the result is divine.
19. Raspberry-Grapefruit Smoothie
This smoothie is packed with antioxidants and vitamin C from the grapefruit and raspberries. Banana acts as the main sweetener here, and this is really the easiest smoothie ever, because those are the only ingredients! You’re only three ingredients away from this sweet smoothie.
20. Pan-Roasted Salmon With Garlicky Kale and Citrus Vinaigrette
This is a perfect healthy meal to make when you’ve done a little more indulging lately than you’ve meant to, and you’re ready to get back on track. It’s light but nourishing, and ready in less than half an hour with butter, salmon, grapefruit, kale, honey, and lemon juice. Replace the sugar with coconut sugar or just leave it out.
21. Rosemary Grapefruit Margaritas
I like margaritas more than I’d care to admit, but I’m careful to only enjoy them occasionally. This is one I’d drop everything and make it I had the ingredients on hand: tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and a rosemary simple syrup. You can make the simple syrup with honey or maple instead of sugar.
22. Grapefruit and Thyme Glazed Root Vegetables
With coconut oil, fresh thyme, garlic, and grapefruit, these glazed vegetables take on a deliciously comforting flavor. Since they’re root vegetables, they’re the ultimate in healthy winter comfort food, anyway! You’ll need carrots, beets, and sweet potatoes.
23. Grapefruit Glazed Turkey Tenderloin
Grapefruit is great in place of orange or lemon in turkey and chicken recipes, and it adds such an interesting flavor. This recipe uses turkey tenderloin, juice grapefruit, zest, olive oil, fresh cilantro, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and honey to create a delicious meal.
24. Seared Sesame Tuna Steak
The tuna itself in this recipe is grape-fruit free, but it’s crusted with black and white sesame seeds and served with a unique avocado and grapefruit salsa, with onion, lime juice, and chopped coriander. You’re going to want to put this salsa on just about everything.
25. Grapefruit Guacamole
Speaking of grapefruit and avocado, you have to try this guacamole. It’s made with grapefruit, avocado, red onion, cilantro, salt, lime juice, cayenne pepper, and chopped tomato, and it’s perfect with fresh fruits or vegetables, and even apple chips!
